9th Grade Bible
The Story of the Old Testament Student Text, 1st Edition, gives students an overview of the big story of Scripture as they study Creation, Fall, and Redemption through the lens of Old Testament scripture. Through examining Old Testament individual narratives, students will develop an understanding of the Old Testament’s relevance to the New Testament, with the goal of learning to conduct their own independent Bible studies as they learn to observe, interpret, and apply biblical truth and put it into action.
10th Grade Bible
BJU Press' Bible 8: The Life of Christ Student Worktext, 1st ed. In the Student Edition, students will explore the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and promises as demonstrated in the life of Christ. They will continue to build their biblical worldview and their understanding of the big story of Scripture.
9th Grade History
BJU Press 9th Grade History surveys major world civilizations and historical events from ancient times to the present. Students study topics such as Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the modern world. The course develops critical-thinking, research, and geography skills through the study of historical events and primary sources. Students learn to evaluate history from a biblical worldview while recognizing God's sovereignty throughout history. Overall, the course provides a strong foundation in world history and prepares students for future social studies courses.
10th Grade History
BJU Press 10th Grade History covers the history of the United States from the colonial period to modern times. Students study major events, influential figures, and the nation's development. The course strengthens critical thinking, research, and geographic skills through historical analysis. Students evaluate history from a biblical worldview and recognize God's providence throughout America's past. Overall, the course provides a strong foundation in U.S. history.
9th Grade Biology
Apologia Biology is a high school science course that introduces students to the study of living organisms from a Christian worldview. The course covers topics such as cell structure, genetics, ecology, classification, plants, animals, and human anatomy and physiology. Students strengthen their understanding of biology through hands-on laboratory experiments, scientific observation, and critical thinking activities.
10th Grade Chemistry
Apologia Chemistry is a high school course that teaches the fundamental principles of chemistry from a Christian worldview. Students study topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, gases, solutions, acids and bases, and thermochemistry. The course includes hands-on laboratory experiments that help students apply scientific concepts and develop practical lab skills. It also emphasizes problem-solving, scientific reasoning, and the use of mathematics to understand chemical processes.
9th Grade Algebra 1
BJU Press 9th Grade Algebra 1 introduces students to the fundamental concepts of algebra and develops strong problem-solving skills. The course covers topics such as solving equations and inequalities, graphing linear equations, systems of equations, exponents, polynomials, factoring, and quadratic equations. Overall, the course provides a solid foundation for higher-level math courses such as Geometry and Algebra 2.
10th Grade Geometry
BJU Press 10th Grade Geometry builds on algebra skills by introducing students to the principles of plane and solid geometry. The course covers topics such as points, lines, angles, triangles, polygons, circles, similarity, congruence, coordinate geometry, and three-dimensional figures. Overall, the course prepares students for higher-level mathematics by strengthening their analytical and problem-solving skills.
High School English
Our high school students are expected to build upon the foundational skills developed in junior high, enabling them to conduct deeper analyses of complex texts and poetry while crafting longer, more articulate essays. They will also engage in Socratic discussions that demonstrate an understanding of sophisticated themes. Additionally, students will engage in a dedicated study of rhetoric and rhetorical devices, which they will use to study Shakespeare, focusing on his use of allusion and layered metaphor to develop themes. Students will continue their work with Greek and Latin roots, with all studies being firmly grounded in a Biblical worldview.
Electives
Physical Education
Our Secondary School P.E. program is designed to help students develop strength, coordination, endurance, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity. Students experience a variety of movement and activities, including traditional sports, fitness challenges, agility and conditioning, weight and circuit training, and other activities that keep them active and engaged.
While after-school athletics provide opportunities for students to compete and develop sport-specific skills, P.E. emphasizes the importance of physical activity for every student. Our goal is to help students understand how regular movement, strength, and fitness contribute to a healthy lifestyle and equip them with habits they can carry well beyond their school years.
9th Grade Health and Nutrition
Our 9th Grade Health & Nutrition course uses Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Health and Nutrition, 2nd Edition to help students understand how God designed the human body and how their daily choices impact their health and well-being. Students explore topics including nutrition, physical health, exercise, personal wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices from a biblical worldview.
The course encourages students to take personal responsibility for caring for the body God has given them while developing practical habits that promote lifelong health and wellness.
10th Grade Life Skills
Our 10th Grade Life Skills course prepares students for real-world independence while helping them understand their God-given purpose and responsibility. Students develop practical skills in cooking and nutrition, budgeting and money management, organization, communication, decision-making, personal responsibility, household skills, and career readiness. Through hands-on activities and real-life challenges, students learn to serve others, steward what God has entrusted to them, and grow into confident, responsible young adults prepared to honor the Lord in their everyday lives.
10th Grade Spanish
The BJU Press Spanish 1 (3rd Edition) curriculum, titled Nuevos Amigos!, focuses on practical communication, cultural comprehension, and a biblical worldview, targeting a novice-high proficiency level.
Chapel
The goal of Heart Cry Christian Academy’s Secondary School Chapel is to make the character, attributes, and purposes of God known to our students while encouraging them to grow in their relationship with Christ. In 1 Timothy 4:12, Paul reminds young people that they are never too young to make an impact for Christ: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.” Our desire is to challenge students to lead by their words, actions, faith, and character. We also look to Romans 12:2, which calls believers to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Chapel provides an opportunity for students to examine the influences around them, think biblically, and allow Christ to shape the way they live and respond to the world. Our prayer is that each student would leave chapel encouraged, challenged, and equipped to live boldly for Christ - in the classroom, at home, in their relationships, and in the world around them.
Small Groups Studies
Our 7th–10th grade Small Group Studies are designed to give students a safe, comfortable environment to grow in their faith, ask questions, and engage in meaningful, faith-filled conversations. Students meet in gender-specific groups, creating space for more open and authentic discussion as they navigate the challenges of growing into young adulthood.
Young Women - Identity in Christ
Young women will discover what it means to find their identity, worth, and purpose in Christ. Through Scripture, personal stories, and journaling, they will be encouraged to understand who God created them to be and how their identity in Christ shapes the way they live, think, and respond to the world around them.
Young Men - Becoming a Godly Man
Young men will explore what Scripture says about becoming a godly man and living with character, integrity, courage, and purpose. Through Scripture, personal stories, and prayer, they will discuss what biblical manhood looks like and how to faithfully live out their relationship with Christ in everyday life.
